Anil Walji MD, Ph.D
Prof. Anil Walji is a Professor of Anatomy at the University of Alberta. He holds a PhD in anatomy from University of Nairobi.
Isaac Opole - B.Sc (Anatomy), M.B.Ch.B., M.Med (Interl Medicine), PhD
Prof. Isaac Opole completed the B.Sc. Anatomy degree in 1988. He graduated from medical school from the University of Nairobi and interned at the University of Nairobi and the University of Kansas Medical Center. He earned a PhD at the University of California, Irvine, and completed residency and fellowship at KUMC. He has a certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine (2005) and is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians (2010). Dr Opole is currently a faculty member at the University of Kansas Medical center.
Julius Ogengo - B.Sc (Anatomy), M.B Ch.B., PhD (Anatomy), MD
Prof. Julius Ogeng'o is an Associate Professor at the department. He was awarded a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree by the University of Nairobi on December 5th 2014. He was the chairman of the department between 2004 and 2011 before joining University of Nairobi Enterprises limited (UNES) as the Managing Director. Prof. Ogeng'o is currently the director for CESSP. Prof. Ogeng'o is also the Editor In Chief of the Anatomy journal of Africa, the author of OgAnatomy and the Mungai's Students' Dissection manual.
Christopher Stuart Gontier - B.Sc. (Anatomy), M.B. Ch.B., M.Med (H. Pathol)
Dr. Gontier is currently a senior lecturer at the department of human pathology, University of Nairobi.
Peter Gichangi - B.Sc. (Anatomy), M.B.Ch.B., M.Med (ObsGyn), PhD
Prof. Peter Gichangi is an Associate Professor at the department of Human Anatomy. Professor Gichangi is a holder of B.Sc. Anatomy (Hons), M.B.Ch.B., M.Med. (Obs Gyn) and PhD (ObsGyn). Prof. Gichangi is a consultant obstetrician gynaecologist with over 20year experience in teaching Human Anatomy. Additionally, he has wide experience in research stretching from basic science to public health issues related to HIV/AIDS, Family planning and key population in Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, Ethiopia and South Sudan.
In the Department of Human Anatomy, Prof Gichangi chairs several committees and is the Course Director for MSC and Ph.D. programs as well as the Thematic lead for Embryology and genetic studies. Prof Gichangi also holds the position of visiting Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Ghent University in Belgium.
Hassan Saidi - B.Sc. (Anatomy), M.B.Ch.B., M.Med (Surgery), FCS (Cosecsa), FACS
Prof. Hassan Saidi is an Associate Professor at the department of Human Anatomy. He is the current head of the department and the associate dean, school of medicine. He is a consultant laparascopic and general surgeon at Kenyatta National hospital and the Aga Khan University hospital, Nairobi. Prof. Saidi is also one of the founders of Haiba foundation, a non profit making organization, incorporated in 2004 as a tool of resource mobilization and development. Prof. Hassan Saidi is the current chairman of the surgical society of Kenya, the Editor in Chief of the Annals of African Surgery and the associate editor of the Anatomy Journal of Africa.
Paul Odula - B.Sc. (Anat), M.B.Ch.B., M.Med (Surg), FCS
Paul O. Odula is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Human anatomy, School of Medicine at the University of Nairobi. With 24 years of teaching and research experience in Human Anatomy at university level, Dr. Odula has taught in 4 different medical schools, in 3 African countries. He received the Deans award for outstanding performance in teaching and student support at the UON. Prior to his UON appointment, Dr. Odula worked as a senior Registrar at the Aga Khan University Hospital. He was a visiting Lecturer at the College of Medicine, University of Malawi (2007-2009) and at the School of Business Studies at Strathmore University (2008-2010). Currently he is an external examiner at Kenya Methodist University medical school since 2012. Dr. Odula has strong background in curriculum development for medical education and has a long experience in teaching using problem-based learning. He has supervised several groups of surgeons and groups of Bsc (anatomy) in their research work.
Dr. Odula became a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa FCS (COSECSA) in 2001. He graduated with a MMed degree in General Surgery from Makerere University, Uganda while on a MHO/NUFFIC research scholarship. He received his MBChB and B.Sc Anatomy (1st Class honours) from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. Currently, Dr. Odula is registered for a PhD and was awarded a Deans Committee Research Grant for an ongoing PhD research work. Surgical Anatomy is his speciality.
Benard Ndung'u B.Sc. (Anat), M.B.Ch.B., M.Med (Surg), FCS, Fell. GI/Hernia Endoscopy Surgery (Apollo); Dip.MAS (Delhi)
Dr. Benard Ndung'u holds a B.Sc (Hons) in Human Anatomy, MBChB and MMED (Surgery) degrees from the University of Nairobi, a Diploma in Minimal Access Surgery (MAS) from the WOrld Associaiton of Laparoscopic Surgeons (WALS) at he Laparoscopic Hospital In New Delhi India. He has recieved additional training in Laparoendoscopic Gastrointestinal (GI) and Hernia Surgery from Asia - Pacific region, mainly India.
Thomas Chokwe, B.Sc., M.B.Ch.B., M.Med (Anaesth)
Dr. Thomas Chokwe is currently a senior lecturer in the department of Surgery at the University of Nairobi.
Moses Obimbo - M.B.Ch.B., M.Sc.(Anat), Anatomy, MMed (Obs Gyn), PhD
Graduated with Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery in 2006. Went ahead to complete Masters of Science of Human Anatomy four years ago. He described the segmental topography and structure of the human uterine artery in different physiological states. Moses has a master of Medicine degree in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He was awarded a PhD in Human Anatomy on 5th December 2014. His study focused on the pattern of estrogen receptor distribution, ultrastructure and adrenergic innervation of uterine artery in the domestic pig (sus scrofa domesticus). He is currently pursing postdoctoral degree in HIV infection and the placenta.
Kevin Ongeti - B.Sc. Anatomy., M.B.Ch.B. MSc (Anat), MMed (Ortho)
Kevin is pursuing a PhD in Anatomy. His study revolves around the structure of the rabbit carotid artery as influenced by the presence of androgens and estrogens. He is also a part I medical student in Orthopaedic Surgery
Beda Olabu - B.Sc. Anatomy, M.B.Ch.B, M.Sc (Anat)
After completing graduating with Bachelor of Science in Anatomy, Beda pursued a Masters of Science in Human Anatomy. His study focussed on assesing the structure of the rabbit penis in different hormonal conditions. Beda is a pursuing a degree in masters of medicine, Radiology and Imaging at the University of Nairobi.
Anne Pulei - B.Sc. Anatomy, M.B.Ch.B, MSc (Anat), MMed (Obs Gyn)
Completed a Bachelors degree in Anatomy seven years ago. Anne enrolled in the Master of Science in Human Anatomy programme, immediately after her internship. Her study described the different structural elements of the rabbit uterus considering parity. She is a part I student in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Dan Ochieng' - B.Sc. Anatomy, M.B.Ch.B, M.Med - Neurosurgery
Pursued a bachelors degree in Anatomy 9 years ago. This degree was instrumental in shaping his subsequent studies in medical school and internship. He is currently pursuing a Master of Medicine degree in Neurosurgery at the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
Mark Karanja - B.Sc. Anatomy, M.B.Ch.B, M.Med (Surg)
Enrolled in the Bachelor of Science degree in 2004. After his studies, Mark completed the bachelors degree in medicine and surgery at the university of Nairobi. He pursued a Master of Medicine degree in General Surgery at the Aga Khan University Hospital. Dr. Mark Tharao is a general and laparascopic surgeon at St. Mary's Hospital Langata, and a part time anatomy lecturer, Kenyatta Univerity.
Angela Koech - B.Sc. Anatomy, M.B.Ch.B, MPH, MMed (ObsGyn)
Having pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Anatomy opened avenues for her elective term at the University of Washington. This course also enriched her interest in research, providing a stepping stone to a research assistant position at KEMRI. Angela is pursued a Master of Medicine Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Aga Khan University. And currently holds a position of research fellow in the same institution.
Phillip Maseghe - B.Sc. Anatomy, M.B.Ch.B, MSc - Anat
Phillip is in his second year of Master of Science of Human Anatomy. His study focuses of the structural changes in the retina following mononuclear deprevation. Dr. Maseghe is an assistant editor with the Annals of African Surgery. He is also the production manager of the Anatomy Journal of Africa and a resident in Neurosurgery, University of Nairobi.

Paul is a prolific writer, lecturer and head of department of Human Anatomy at the Kenya Methodist University. He is also persuing internal medicine at the University of Nairobi.

Brian Ngure Kariuki B.Sc. Anatomy, MBChB
Ngure is a final year medical student at the University of Nairobi and an alumnus of the Intercalated Human Anatomy BSc (Hons) program. He has been an instructor at the Department of Human Anatomy since 2012. He is also an intern at the Annals of African surgery (AAS) and a research assistant in several World Health Organization (WHO) projects on Preterm birth and feto-maternal health.
He has been an active member of the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), Surgical Society of Kenya (SSK) and led the organization of scientific conferences for the Association of Medical Students of University of Nairobi (AMSUN). He is keen on teaching, research and publication in Anatomy and related medical fields. He is interested in: Neurosurgery, Global health, research, technology and innovation in medicine.

Brian Wambua, B.Sc Anatomy
Brian Wambua Waweru is a Level 4 MBChB student at the University of Nairobi, with a first class honors in Bsc Human Anatomy. He has been an associate faculty at Mount Kenya University, Department of Human Anatomy since 2014. He has been an Anatomy Demonstrator at the Department of Human Anatomy, University of Nairobi since 2012, and at the Department of Human Anatomy, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology since 2015. He is a member of the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), where he helped organize the Ubongo brain campaign held at the department of human anatomy, University of Nairobi. He is also the founder of the Thika chapter for the Young Professionals against Chronic disease network (YPCDN), where he has helped in organizing the first East Africa Next Generation Leadership training on health advocacy held at Nairobi University on September 9-11, 2016. He has played a significant role in organizing medical camps at St. Paul’s Chaplaincy and the Chamberlain-Ross slums outreach initiative. He is also a signatory and director of G-inue self-help group which he founded to empower the youth under the Unaitas Sacco with investment in small scale businesses. He is an awardee of the Shah Ranmal Raja Trust merit scholarship to pursue his MBChB degree. He has published extensively in peer reviewed journals and has presented numerous manuscripts at scientific conferences.

Isaac Cheruiyot, B.Sc Anatomy
Isaac Cheruiyot completed his Bachelor’s degree in Human Anatomy in 2016. His study focused on the structural changes in the common carotid arteries of male rats as influenced by declining levels of androgen hormones. He is currently a third year medical student and a demonstrator at the department of Human Anatomy, university of Nairobi. He is a member of the Kariangey group, a non-profit organization formed in 2016 to mobilize resources for construction of a community library among other projects, with the aim of improving access to literature in the low resource Molo Sirwe area of Baringo County. He has a keen interest in gastrointestinal tract surgery, particularly the role of bariatric surgery in remission of type 2 diabetes and weight loss in obese patients. He hopes to pursue postgraduate training in Anatomy and Surgery.
Thomas Amuti, B.Sc Anatomy
Thomas Amuti is a third year medical student and a demonstrator at the Department of Human Anatomy. He is passionate about research and is currently part of the Standing Committee on Research, under the Medical School Association of Kenya.
