THE UON VICE CHANCELLOR, PROF. S. KIAMA SIGNING MoU WITH MAKUENI COUNTY GOVT DURING COMMISSIONING OF DIGITAL UPGRADE EQUIPMENT

The Nairobi surgical skills centre (NSSC), the department of Human Anatomy and Physiology, University of Nairobi commissioned the recently installed Digital  Upgrade equipment  on 14th March,2024 at 9.30 AM. The VC University of Nairobi Prof. S. Kiama Hosted the Event which was also attended by His Excellency Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr. where the MoU between UoN and Makueni county was signed by the VC Prof. S. Kiama and Mutula Kilonzo jnr. representative.

 

Dr Paul Odula: INNOVATE+ and the Surgical Society of Kenya’s partnership with Proximie

Dr. Paul Odula is the President of the Surgical Society of Kenya (SSK), the Strategic Program Area Lead of Human Anatomy at The University of Nairobi, a member of the Proximie Global Health steering committee and a general surgeon. He is heavily involved in surgical training at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as in research, ensuring that surgeons in Kenya are able to achieve their goals.

The SPA lead of Human Anatomy welcomed a fellow member of Proximie’s Global Health Steering Committee, Dr Adrian Park of Meritus Health, for a visit to Nairobi Surgical Skills Centre (NSSC).

NSSC is the latest beneficiary of the world renowned Proximie’s enabling technology which will transform the practice and training of surgical skills in Kenya.

Dr Adrian was accompanied by Nigel, Dr Gagandeep Bhogal, Dr Hamza Khawaja and the James Ndung’u to the facility.

The University of Nairobi is celebrating and awarding outstanding Performance in different categories. This was a two events which invove Performance Contract signing and Staff performance recognition And award. From the department of Human Anatomy, Dr. Mwachaka Philip, Mr. Moses Odumbe And Mr. Meshack O. Onyango received Outstanding performance certificate in the 2023 Pc.

DR CHARLES GITHINJI has been appointed the Chairperson of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from 20th January, 2023 by His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces.

History made as Bill Gates Visits UoN!

History was made on Thursday, 17th November 2022 as the University hosted billionaire business mogul, Bill Gates.

Bill Gates, who was on his second trip to Africa, went to Makueni County, Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), and the University of Nairobi.

On his itinerary at the UoN, was an engagement with UoN experts at the Centre for Epidemiological Modelling Analysis (CEMA), a press briefing and a student engagement forum at the UoN Chandaria Auditorium.

HUMAN ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY ACADEMIC STAFF MEMBERS RETREAT IN DIANI

Members of staff from Human Anatomy and Physiology, SPA Human Anatomy recently had a staff retreat in Diani to evaluate the performance of the past academic year and planning for the new 2022-2023 academic year. SPA Medical Physiology will be having a retreat in August 2022.

Melvine Thogo Wangari, the 2nd Female UNSA Chairperson sworn in

Melvine Thogo Wangari, has been announced and sworn in as the new Incoming chair of the University of Nairobi Students Association 2022.

This was revealed on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at UoN’s Taifa Hall after the 39 electors from faculties and campuses elected team Melvine with a win of 24 votes.

Melvine Thogo,  a 3rd year Law student is the 2nd female Chairperson heading the students association and the first after the UNSA constitution has been amended.

The First Memorial service In Tribute to Anatomy Cadavers-14th March 2022

On 14th March 2022, The Department of Human Anatomy and Physiology in the Faculty of Health Sciences – University of Nairobi held the First Memorial service In Tribute to Anatomy Cadavers as Convocation of Thanks and honor to the persons whose bodies have been used for teaching and learning for both undergraduate and post graduate students. This has happened to be the first ceremony to commemorate the gift of body donation to the Medical school program in this department.

Prof. Obimbo awarded prestigious Calestous Juma Science Leadership Fellowship

Prof. Moses Obimbo Madadi has been awarded a Calestous Juma Science Leadership Fellowship from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Prof. Obimbo, who is the Chair of the Department of Human Anatomy and Medical Physiology will form a coalition of researchers and develop tools to study the vaginal microbiome and metabolites during pregnancy to help identify predictive biomarkers and intervention strategies for improving pregnancy outcomes in Kenya.

WEBINAR: The burden of stroke and dementia in the ageing society

The Department of Human Anatomy held a successful webinar on ‘The burden of stroke and dementia in the ageing society’, on 8th December 2020.

The Keynote lecture was given by Professor Raj Kalaria, who is a distinguished scholar and a professor of neuropathology at the Newcastle University Translation and Clinical Research Institute in the United Kingdom.

The discussants included Professor Julius Ogeng’o (the Deputy Vice-chancellor, Academic Affairs – UoN), and Professor David Ndetei (Department of Psychiatry, UoN).

Human Anatomy student emerges best overall during 62nd UoN graduation

The news of being the best overall student during the 62nd University of Nairobi (UoN) graduation came as a shock to Muse Bridget Neema who says it was unexpected.

“At first I was shocked, it was quite unexpected. My next reaction was that there are probably several valedictorians from the numerous courses offered at UoN. After I found out that it was actually among all the graduates it was quite humbling to say the least.” Neema said when we caught up with her for an interview.

Prof. Jaoko honoured for role in fight against HIV/AIDS

Prof. Walter Jaoko, Director KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research was one of the ten individuals who were honoured at the Ten out of Ten (1O/10) Awards held at the House of Lords in the Palace of Westminster, London on 9th September, 2019.

The Ten out of Ten Awards aims at facilitating an important conversation about the intersection that must converge in order to meet the UN targets of globally ending all new HIV diagnosis by 2030.

HIPPOCRATIC OATH BY GRADUATES FROM THE SCHOOL OF DENTAL SCIENCES CLASS 2017

The School of Dental Sciences held its Hippocratic Oath ceremony for the graduates of class 2017 on Friday 17th November 2017 at the School of Dental Sciences.

The oath was administered by Dr. Regina J. Mutave – Dean School of Dental Sciences, to the (20) Bachelor of Dental Surgery students who qualified for the award of Degree in Bachelor of Dental Surgery by the University of Nairobi.
